An allergy means an oversensitivity to foreign substances which are normally harmless. In addition to genetic predisposition, non-genetic factors such as allergen exposure, nutrition status, existing chronic diseases or acute virus infections play a role in allergies.
The most frequently occurring allergy is a type I oversensitivity reaction, in which specific IgE antibodies are formed. The symptoms generally occur shortly after contact with the allergen. Therefore, this type of allergy is called an immediate type reaction. IgE antibodies are detected in the Food or Inhalant allergy test.

But, there also exist adverse reactions to food that are not IgE mediated. It is assumed that these adverse reactions are IgG mediated and are caused by a delayed reaction to a particular food substance. The symptoms are more generalised and tend to be chronic or recurrent and may persist for days. These IgG antibodies can be detected by Food intolerance tests. Yes Maam provides lab at home service.
